eTutor Alberta is a collaborative online tutoring service provided by colleges and universities across Alberta. We strive to offer high-quality synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous tutoring to the students of participating institutions.
eTutor Alberta began with our love for learning, for accessibility, and for collaboration. Back in Spring 2013, a number of colleges and universities across Alberta got together to brainstorm how they could make learning opportunities more accessible to their students, and eTutor Alberta emerged from that conversation. With the leadership and sponsorship of eCampusAlberta, these institutions launched a pilot project in online tutoring, specifically focusing on writing skills.
eTutor Alberta began with a pilot term in Winter and Spring 2014. In that first term, from February 24 to June 27, our tutors responded to 383 student papers and 17 student questions. Since then, eTutor Alberta has continued to grow: each semester so far, we've broken our old records. In Fall 2015, eTutor Alberta expanded into math tutoring, broadening its service offerings. We hope to continue growing so we can serve more students in their specific areas of need.
In Fall 2016, the board of governors of eCampusAlberta elected to conclude its operations by the end of March 2017. However, with the ongoing leadership of its member institutions and the operational support of Northern Lakes College, eTutor Alberta continues to operate, providing the same dependable, high-quality student service.
Our Participating Institutions
As a collaborative service, eTutor Alberta could not exist without its participating institutions:
- Lakeland College,
- Lethbridge College,
- MacEwan University,
- NAIT, and
- Northern Lakes College.
Thanks to all of these institutions for their ongoing confidence and collaboration!
Our success also relies on the ongoing support of all our partners and colleagues in online education: BCcampus and the CTDLC.
